Ellen/Helen Grace Arthur was born in 1861 in Lewisham, London – the daughter of Thomas Arthur, a tailor, and Martha Dowding.
She emigrated to New Zealand about 1881 possibly travelling with her brother Thomas and family. (See 93 Fanny Arthur)
When Helen signed the suffrage petition she was living with Thomas and his family in Opoho Road. Shortly after they moved to the Calton Store in North East Valley.
Helen married, builder, William King on 30 March 1911 in Dunedin. William had eight grown up children and had been twice widowed.
Helen died on 19 August 1933 – she is buried in the Arthur family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
William died in 1935 – he is buried with his second wife, also in the Northern Cemetery.
