Isabella Brown was born on 14 August 1843 in Fife, Scotland – the daughter of John Brown, a lighthouse keeper, and Elizabeth Spence.
She emigrated to New Zealand in the mid 1870’s where she married William Gray in 1883.
William worked as a tailor – he was a widower with three children. (See 142 Jessie Gray)
Isabella and William had a son in 1886 and when she signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Castle St, Dunedin.
William died in 1922 and Isabella died on 16 August 1926 – they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
