Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Janet Robertson was born about 1853, either in Scotland or Australia, the daughter of Arthur Robertson and Jane McLaren.
She came to New Zealand with her family in the early 1860s and lived, at first, at Waipori.
Janet married James Henderson, a butcher, on 16 February 1876 in Knox Church, Dunedin.
They had 12 children, two who died in infancy, and when Janet signed the suffrage petition they were living in Maria Rd, South Dunedin.
Her sister also signed. (See 113 L Johnson)
In the mid 1890s the family moved to Canterbury & eventually settled at Redcliff, on the Waitaki River.
Janet died on 15 January 1912 and James died in 1938 – they are buried together in the Waimate Cemetery.
