Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Lily Robertson was born about 1855 in Australia – the daughter of Arthur Robertson and Jane McLaren.
She came to New Zealand with her family in the early 1860s and lived, at first, at Waipori.
Lily married Peter Johnson, a coal merchant, on 25 October 1882 at her sister’s house in Lawrence.
They had four children and, by 1884, they had moved to Dunedin where Peter was declared bankrupt.
When Lily signed the suffrage petition they were living in Main Rd, South Dunedin. Her sister also signed. (See 113 J Henderson)
Peter died in 1929 and Lily died at her home on 27 June 1935 – they are buried together in the Northern Cemetery.
