Janet Smith McDougall was born in 1871 in New Zealand, the daughter of William McDougall, a blacksmith, and Sarah Reid.
Janet did not marry and when she signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Waikouaiti.
She died at Waikouaiti on September 14 1951. She is buried in the family grave in the Waikouaiti Cemetery.
