Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jane Cochrane was born about 1828 in Ireland. She married William Hugh Moutray, a baker and storekeeper, in 1851 in Belfast and they had three daughters before they emigrated to New Zealand.

They settled in Greymouth where William was declared insolvent in 1871. By 1882 he had started again in business with the A1 Bakery in Tainui Street.

William died in 1892 and when Jane signed the suffrage petition she was living either with or near to her daughter Esther (See 246 E Kittely) in Greymouth.

Jane died on 30 July 1898 – she is buried with William in the Karoro Cemetery.
