Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jeanie/Janet Marshall was born in 1877 in New Zealand – the daughter of James Marshall and Jeanie Menzies. (See 123 Jeanie M Marshall)

She grew up on the family farm 'Stratha' in Chatton and she signed the suffrage petition in, nearby Knapdale.

On 6 February 1901 she married George Murray at her home.

They had seven children, one who died in infancy, and they lived in Gore.

George died at their son’s home in Christchurch in September 1946 and Jeannie died, also in Christchurch, on 19 October – they are buried together in the Gore Cemetery.
