Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.

Janet Margaret Ternent was born in 1871 in Dunedin – the daughter of Andrew Ternent, a storeman, and Isabella Irvine. (See 83 Isabella Ternent)

When Janet signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Dundas Street working as a tailoress.

Shortly after, on 7 October 1893, Janet died at her home “after a short and painful illness”.

She is buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
