Janet/Jessie Carmichael was born on 27 July 1861 in Campbeltown, Argyllshire, Scotland – the daughter of Mary Carmichael. (See 299 Mary Farquharson)
She came to New Zealand with her mother as a child and when she signed the suffrage petition she was living in Musselburgh, Dunedin.
Jessie married Hugh McKinnon, a mariner, on 10 April 1894 in Dunedin and they had four children.
Hugh died in 1933 and Jessie died at her daughter’s home on 4 April 1941 – they are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
