Jessie Melville was born in 1869 in Dunedin – the eldest child of John Melville, a tailor, and Catherine McFarlane. (See 105 Mrs Melville)

When she signed the suffrage petition Jessie was living with her family in Maitland Street.

She did not marry and she died at St Luke’s Home in Dunedin on 1 August 1971 – aged 101.

She was cremated and her ashes were buried in the family grave.
