When Catherine signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Eden St, Dunedin.

She married John Henry Burmester, a clothier, on 11 October 1893 at her home in Dunedin and they had three children.

They lived in Palmerston North before moving to Stratford where Catherine died on 3 October 1950 and John died in 1959 – they are buried together in the Kopuatama Cemetery, Stratford.
