Eliza Grace Russell was born on 28 February 1862 in Mid and South Yell, Shetland Island – the daughter of Robert Russell, a blacksmith, and Elizabeth Laurenson.
Eliza came to Otago in 1875 with her family on the Peter Denny.
The family lived in Dunedin. In 1877 her father died by falling off the wharf at Bluff harbour while going to a job in Stewart Island.
Eliza did not marry and lived with her widowed sister Clementina Jamieson.
Eliza died on 6 February 1938 at Stafford St, and she is buried with her sister and mother in the Southern Cemetery.
