Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Lucy Mary Gleeson was born in 1870 in Auckland – the daughter of Frederick James Gleeson, a builder, and Mary Jane Wright. (See 248 Mrs F J Gleeson)
When she signed the suffrage petition Lucy was living with her family in Greymouth.
She married Arthur Waldermar Schaef, a photographer, in 1895 and they had three children.
Around 1900 they moved to Wellington where Arthur, who was a pioneer aviator, 'built the first aeroplane to fly in New Zealand'.
Arthur died in 1940 and Lucy died on 9 January 1947 – they were both cremated.
