Mary Elizabeth Tulley was born in 1852 in London – the daughter of Thomas Tulley, a bootmaker, & Mary Elizabeth Bacon. (See 39 Mrs Tully)
She emigrated to New Zealand with her family in 1872 on the “William Davie” and they settled in Dunedin.
Mary married Sidney John Lyon, a tailor, in 1874 and they had nine children, two who died in infancy.
When Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Melbourne St, South Dunedin.
Sidney died in 1911 & Mary died on 26 June 1927 – they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
