Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.

Mary Elizabeth Bacon was born about 1833 in London, England – the daughter of John Bacon and Elizabeth.

She married bootmaker Thomas Tulley on 8 June 1851 and they had four children before they emigrated to New Zealand in 1872 on the “William Davie”. (See L. Tulley)

They settled in Dunedin and when Mary signed the suffrage petition they were living in Waverley St, Kensington in South Dunedin.

Thomas died in 1899 and Mary died on 30 September 1905 – they are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
