Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Margaret Annie Julius was born in 1867 in New Zealand – the daughter of Franz Julius and Margaret Connor Robertson.
She grew up in Milton in South Otago and she married Frederick Arthur Laurie, a fitter, on 20 June 1891 in Dunedin.
When Margaret signed the suffrage petition the family were living at George St, Caversham. Her sister in law Charlotte also signed in Caversham. (See 120 L Park Smith)
They had five children and lived in Greymouth, Christchurch, Whanganui and Napier before retiring to Petone where they celebrated their Golden Wedding in 1941. Frederick died in 1944 and Margaret died on 27 May 1956 – they are buried together in the Old Taita Cemetery.
