Mary Ann Muff was born on 13 April 1864 in London, England – the daughter of Isaac Muff, a coachman, and Mary Ann Roberts. (See 199 Mrs Muff)
She emigrated to Canterbury with her family in 1874 on the Duke of Edinburgh and they settled in Christchurch.
When Mary signed the suffrage petition she was living with her widowed mother and sister in Linwood, Christchurch.
She married William Walter Percy Godfrey, an accountant, on 15 April 1901 at St John’s, Christchurch and they lived in Wellington until William’s death in 1914.
He is buried in the Karori Cemetery in Wellington.
Mary returned to Christchurch where she died on 23 September 1941, she is buried with her sister Alice (See 199 Alice Muff) in the Waimairi Cemetery, Christchurch.
