Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Margaret Reid Dempster was born about 1850 in Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire, Scotland – the daughter of John Dempster, a wool scourer, and Elizabeth Reid.
She arrived in Otago with her family in 1852 on the Stately and they settled in Green Island, near Dunedin.
Margaret did not marry and she appears to have lived with different family members after her parents’ deaths.
When she signed the suffrage petition at Enfield Margaret was staying with her sister Georgina. (See 296 Georgina Freeman)
Margaret died on 30 May 1935 at Ross Home in Dunedin. She is buried in the family grave in the Green Island Cemetery.
