Margaret Mitchell Cargill was born in 1859 in Warwickshire, England – the daughter of David Cargill, a costume manufacturer, & Matilda McGowen. (See 114 M Cargill ).

She emigrated to Otago with her mother & brother in 1883 on the “Invercargill” arriving in February.

They settled in Dunedin where Margaret married, mariner, John Morgan Dugdale one month later.

They had 4 children, one who died in infancy, & when Margaret signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Font St, Roslyn.

Margaret died on June 8th 1897 in Dunedin & John died in 1914 – they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
