Margaret Crawford was born on 9 December 1817 in Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire, Scotland – the daughter of James Crawford and Margaret Mitchell.

She married James Morrison, an agricultural labourer, on 2 December 1837 in Alva, Stirlingshire.

They had ten children, one died in infancy, before they emigrated to Otago on the Strathfieldsaye in 1858.

Their youngest daughter Marion (See 58 Marion Morrison) was born in 1862.

The family lived in Upper York Place, Dunedin where James died in 1892 and where Margaret signed the suffrage petition soon after.

Margaret died on 7 November 1896, she is buried with James in the Northern Cemetery.
