Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Margaret Mitchell McGregor was born about 1855 in Stirlingshire, Scotland, the daughter of Peter McGregor and Margaret Mitchell.

She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1857 on the Robert Henderson. Her mother died the following year and her father remarried in 1871.

Margaret married William Taylor, a gold miner and possibly a widower, in 1878. When she signed the suffrage petition they were living in Cardrona in Central Otago and she was working as a dressmaker.

In later life they retired to Dunedin where William died in 1927 and Margaret died on 27 September 1938. They are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
