Margaret Knox was born about 1852 in County Cavan, Ireland.

She emigrated to Otago with her sister Ann (See 39 Mrs Porteous) in 1875 on the James Nicol Fleming

Margaret worked as a dressmaker before she married, grocer, James Davidson Wilson in 1877 in Dunedin.

They had three children and when Margaret signed the suffrage petition they were living in King Street.

They later moved to Christchurch where James died in 1929 and Margaret died on 3 January 1939 – they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery, Dunedin.
