Martha Blackwood was born about 1851 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland – the daughter of William Blackwood, a miner, and Martha McIndoe. (See 51 Martha Blackwood)
he family emigrated to Otago on the Alpine in 1859 and settled in Caversham, Dunedin.
Martha married John Douglass, a blacksmith, on 9 June 1875 at Caversham.
They had eight children and lived in Hampden north of Dunedin where Martha signed the suffrage petition.
Martha and John retired to Dunedin about 1918 where John died in 1920.
Martha died on 15 October 1925, she is buried with John in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
