Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.

Mary Fleming was in New Zealand in 1865 – the daughter of James Fleming and Mary Pettigrew. (See 111 Mrs Fleming)

She married William James Pellett, a wood turner, on 26 December 1887 in Dunedin and they had three daughters.

When Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Broughton St, Kaikorai.

William died in 1931 and Mary died at her home on 24 June 1947 – they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.

Mary’s obituary said she “was one of the early members of Knox Church, being an active worker in the Bible class and Church activities under Dr Stuart.”
