Emily Mary Donovan was born in 1874 in Ballarat, Victoria – the daughter of Daniel Joseph Donovan, a railway clerk, and Harriet Elizabeth Burrows. (See 34 Mrs D J Donovan

She came to Otago with her parents as an infant and they settled in Dunedin. 

Emily signed the suffrage petition with her mother in Begg St, Musselburgh. 

She did not marry and she died at her sister’s home in Dunedin on 19 October 1946 – she is buried with her mother in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
