Ellen McKersey was born in 1876 in New Zealand – the daughter of Thomas McKersey, an iron dresser, and Ellen McCarthy. (See 144 Mrs McKersy)

When Ellen signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family at No. 1 Road, Opoho.

She married Charles John Francis Hannagan, a railway inspector who had been twice widowed, in 1932.

Charles died at their home in 1936 and Ellen died on 21 December 1966 – they are buried with Ellen’s family in the Northern Cemetery.
