Mary/Polly McKersey was born in 1863 in London – the daughter of Thomas McKersey, an iron dresser, and Ellen McCarthy. (See 144 Mrs McKersey)
She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1874 on the Allahabad and they settled in Dunedin.
When Mary signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in No. 1 Road, Opoho working as a tailoress.
In 1911 Mary married widower Francis Hannagan – she died on 29 June 1934 and is buried with her family in the Northern Cemetery.
Francis died at his daughter’s home in Dunedin in 1939 – he is buried with his first wife and son, also in the Northern Cemetery.
