Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

This entry is either for Georgina Williamson or her sister Mary – daughters of John and Margaret Williamson. (See 157 Mrs Williamson)

When the two daughter signed the suffrage petition they were living in the family home in Elm Row, Dunedin. Georgina who was born in 1866 was working as a dressmaker and  Mary who was born in 1871 was working as a tailoress.

Georgina did not marry – she died at her home on 3 May 1908 and is buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.

Mary had a daughter in 1893 before she married Harry Lilley, a labourer, in 1899.

They had two children, and in 1914, when the family were living in Christchurch, Mary applied for a separation with custody of the children on the grounds of persistent cruelty.

The case was adjourned and the outcome is unclear.

Mary died in Auckland on 28 September 1958 she was a widow - she was cremated. Harry’s date and place of death are unknown.
