Janet/Jessie Campbell was born about 1825 in Scotland – the daughter of John Campbell.
She married George Gow, a blacksmith, on 5 November 1852 in Edinburgh, Scotland.
They had a daughter in 1853 before emigrating to Melbourne, Australia in 1854 aboard the Admiral Boxer.
They had three more children in Victoria before they came to Dunedin in about 1865 and had another four children. At least three of their children died in infancy. The family first lived in Princes St before shifting to Melville St in the 1870s. Their daughters Joanna and Christina also signed the 1893 suffrage petition.
George died at Melville St in 1884 and Jessie died on 11 July 1911. They are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
