Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jane Patterson was born about 1830, possibly in England.

She married John Jamieson Stewart, a bootmaker, in 1868 in New Zealand and they had two daughters.

John died in Greymouth in 1890 – he is buried in the Karoro Cemetery.

When Jane signed the suffrage petition she was working as a dressmaker.

In the late 1890s Jane and her daughters, (See 246 S Stewart), moved to Wellington where she died on 5 September 1912 – she is buried with her daughters in the Karori Cemetery.
