Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Margaret Jamieson was born about 1856 in Ireland – the daughter of John Jamieson, a farm labourer, and Margaret. (See 53 Margaret Jamieson)
She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1874 on the Mairi Bhan and settled in Dunedin.
Margaret married William Lester, a wood dealer, on 31 March 1879 in Dunedin and they had four children.
William was declared bankrupt in 1880.
When Margaret signed the suffrage petition the family were living at Purakanui north of Dunedin.
They moved to Palmerston in the 1900s where William died in 1918.
Margaret died on 11 March 1926 and is buried, presumably with William, in the Palmerston Cemetery.
