Alice Evans was born in 1865 in Durham, England – the daughter of coal miner James Evans and Alice Williams.
She emigrated to New Zealand in 1884 on the Coptic accompanied by her three sisters.(See 246 E Williamson)
Her parents and other siblings also emigrated and they settled near Greymouth.
Alice married painter, John George Raine in 1888 and they had nine children.
When Alice signed the suffrage petition the family were living at Taylorville.
Around 1895 the family moved to Wellington where they remained until 1922 when they moved to Auckland.
John died in 1923 and Alice died on 21 July 1953 – they are buried together in the Hillsborough Cemetery.
