The Census and Statistics Office’s Powers electric counting machine tabulated the results of the 1921 census by processing perforated cards. This process changed little for the next 40 years

Napier's bones:this was developed by a sottish mathematician, john nappier on the year 1617 to assist in multiplication and division arithmetic operations.
