I attended Otaki Health Camp in 1951 and again in 1955 (born 1946 in Palmerston North).
On one of these stays, I remember Winifred Atwell visiting and playing the piano for us.
Also remember brushing our teeth with salt.
Highlights seemed to be visits to the beach for a swim.

I attended in 68 or 69. I still have great memories 40+ years later. I had really bad asthma at the time and spent a lot of time in hospitals. The school helped me fell better and I never went to a hospital after again. I live in Canada now but will never forget my time in Otaki...

Hi there I went to this camp and I think it may have been either 1979 or bit later as I can't remember exactly how old I was . I remember hating it. But i struggle to remember much about it. Does anyone know if you can get any of your records if you had been there. And if so how do you go about this or who do you contact I would be grateful for any information. Thanks

I was there in the mid to late 1960's because I had been seriously ill and was unable to gain weight and return to my former health. I loved it there...it was heaps better than being at home. I dont have any photos but do have a lot of good memories.

Does anyone have information on reasons for kids being sent to these camps during the late 50's and early 60's?

I attended the camp in 1972, do you have any photo's, or a register of other children or nurses of that era who also attended?
