Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.

Eliza Green was born in 1848 in Leicestershire, England – the daughter of Samuel Green, a garden labourer, and Catherine Oliver.

She came to New Zealand with her parents in the early 1870’s and she married John Maule, a barman, on 22 January 1873 in Dunedin.

They lived in Milton in South Otago where their daughter was born the following year.

John died in 1875 and shortly after his death Eliza moved to Dunedin where her parents were living.

When she signed the suffrage petition Eliza was living in Main Rd, South Dunedin where she ran a fruit and fancy goods business.

Soon after this she moved to Palmerston North with her mother to live near her sister Martha. (See 314 M Owen)

Eliza died on 10 December 1928 at the Palmerston North Hospital – she is buried with her mother in the Terrace End Cemetery.
