Home of Compassion Crèche, 1930s

Children in the enclosed garden area behind the Home of Compassion Crèche in Buckle Street, Wellington, circa 1935. By the mid-20th century, this outdoor play area was small by contemporary standards. Fortunately, the Sisters of Compassion were able to use the nearby grounds of St Patrick’s College as a supplementary play area.
