Troopship Aquitania

Troopship <em>Aquitania</em>

The Aquitania in Wellington Harbour.

This luxurious and fast Cunard White Star liner served as a troopship throughout the Second World War. In 1940, when this picture was taken, it was carrying troops of the Second Echelon of 2NZEF. During the First World War the ship had carried 60,000 US troops and served as an armed liner, transport and hospital ship.

I know that there is an original photo of this exact same event taken from a slightly different angle more broadside than front on in our family photo album all of which were shot during the years of 1930 thru to 1944
