Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Elizabeth Bennett was born about 1838. She married Frederick Cuff, a wheelwright, in 1860, in Victoria, Australia.

They had a son in Australia before the family came to Dunedin, New Zealand about 1863. Their son died in 1864 and they had another eight children in New Zealand. In 1870 Frederick filed for bankruptcy and, in 1879, he was elected a councillor for the Mornington Borough.

When she signed the suffrage petition Elizabeth was living in The Glen area of Dunedin and the family later moved to Waverley St, South Dunedin. Her two daughters, Jane and Ann, also signed the petition.

Frederick died in Otahuhu in 1897 and Elizabeth died in Dunedin on 7 September 1904. She is buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
