Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Julia Ann Elizabeth Edmonds was born in 1870 in London, England – the daughter of Henry Alfred Edmonds, a cheesemonger, and Fanny Duke. (See 357 Fanny Edmonds)

Her father died in 1882 and the following year the family emigrated to Otago on the Victory.

Julia married William Blackwood, a grocer, on 10 November 1890 at Caversham, Dunedin and they had four children.

When Julia signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Clark St, Caversham.

When they celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1940 they were living at Brighton, south of Dunedin.

Julia died on 6 May 1946 and William died in 1951, they are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
