Farewelling troops in 1914

Crowds farewell New Zealand soldiers aboard the freighter Limerick as it prepares to depart from Wellington in October 1914. Unlike Australia, New Zealand painted its Main Body troop transports grey. On 28 May 1917, the Limerick was sunk by the German submarine U-86 south of Ireland.

Does any one know which ship that Major Bernard Head embarked on. I would like to know date and port and finally ship name.
He was from the 1/5 Flintshire battalion 5 Royal Welch Fusiliers. He travelled much in NZ and finally sailed to Samoa.
He I think sailed in 1914 and returned to NZ in 1915.
Before going to uk then killed by sniper in Gallipoli.
