Rededication of Education Department roll of honour board

In 2005 the Ministry of Education’s facilities manager, Helen McNaught, discovered a First World War roll of honour board created by the Education Department languishing in the basement of the ministry’s national office on St Paul’s Square, Thorndon, Wellington. The 2-m-high bronze and timber board was originally displayed at the department’s premises in Old Government Buildings on Lambton Quay but was put into storage when the ministry moved to St Paul’s Square. The rediscovered board was erected in a prominent position in the third-floor reception area. On 15 September 2005 the ministry marked its reinstatement at a ceremony led by Secretary for Education Howard Fancy and attended by ministry staff and representatives of the New Zealand Returned and Services’ Association.

The board remains on display in the ministry.
