The German light cruiser SMS Breslau pictured during the First World War. Launched on 16 May 1911, the Breslau and the battlecruiser SMS Goeben were transferred to the Ottoman Navy in August 1914. Renamed the Midilli, the cruiser sank on 20 January 1918 after running into a naval minefield off the island of Imbros in the Aegean Sea.
