This telegram sent on behalf of New Zealand’s minister of defence, James Allen, advises Mrs Frances Gill of Palmerston North that her husband Private Henry Gill, 2nd Canterbury Battalion, is 'dangerously ill' after being wounded in action near Bapaume, northern France, on 26 August 1918. Henry Gill died of his wounds on 2 October.
